Volunteer, Get Involved, Support your Community!  
Make your backyard a Mission Field !

Join us the on the jobsite to help finish construction on the Apostle Build home and start two new homes that need to be completed this fall.  Volunteers will work along side Habitat crew leaders, Partner Families, and other participating Congregation Members from throughout the East St. Tammany area to complete three very important projects.  Come put your faith into action during our 2010 Apostle Build Week - September 14 - 18th.

Apostles Build

An Apostles Build is a true demonstration of Theology of the Hammer, a phrase coined by HFHI Founder, Millard Fuller.  We can set our differences aside and use a hammer as an instrument to manifest God’s love.

What is an Apostles Build?

This type of build is a partnership that allows twelve individual churches (or another creative mix) to join together to fully fund and build a house for a local family.  As Jesus’ original apostles were charged with spreading the word about Jesus, our “apostles” are charged with assisting in Habitat’s mission to provide decent shelter for God’s children.

How will it work?

Each “apostle” will be responsible for 1/12 of the cost of the home and volunteer tasks to build the home.  It’s that simple.  You will need to raise a little money, recruit volunteers, and provide a liaison as a contact person and you’ll be ready.  The liaison will work alongside our staff to see that this experience is full of joy and blessings for everyone involved.

What are the responsibilities?

House construction will start in Lent of 2010
Provide the volunteer labor
Fundraise
Promote the build within your congregation (bulletins, fundraisers, etc.)
Provide lunch on-site for your congregation’s build day and the Habitat crew
Encourage your members to attend the ceremonies held for the Partner Family
Pray!

What will Habitat provide?

We will provide the building site, house plans, and a carefully selected Partner Family to work along side you, who will buy the home.  Our staff will arrange for all the materials, have them on site, and offer construction expertise and leadership on the jobsite.

Benefits of a Partnership

There are numerous benefits to this partnership but here are just three.  It offers people a way to share God’s love and leads people to grow in their faith.  It can often attract new members and involve inactive members by providing an opportunity to see tangible results of their efforts as they work side by side.  It gives a chance to participate in a ministry of service that has a beginning and an end.
